IBMYP - Middle Years Programme

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students aged 11-16.

The MYP is a curriculum that challenges students to link their academic studies with the practical world. It is a five-year program that can be adopted by schools either in partnership or in shorter formats of two, three, or four years. Upon completion of the MYP, students are well-equipped to pursue either the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP).

The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally-minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. The programme empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance, locally, nationally, and globally, resulting in young people who are creative, critical, and reflective thinkers.

How is the MYP curriculum structured at Catalyze?

The MYP curriculum framework consists of eight subject groups that offer a comprehensive and well-rounded education to young adolescents. Out of the 8 subject groups, the following subjects are offered in Catalyze which are PERSONALIZED TO THE POTENTIAL OF THE LEARNER AND TO THE LEARNING STYLE OF THE LEARNER.

The objective of the MYP program at Catalyze is to help students develop into well-rounded individuals who are capable of independent thinking, critical analysis, and self-reflection. The MYP program emphasizes the importance of service as action, which involves making a positive impact on the community and environment.

Additionally, the MYP curriculum focuses on STEM education as an important perspective from which to consider integrated teaching and learning in concepts and skills related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

How does STEM work in MYP at Catalyze?

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed to promote interdisciplinary learning and teaching. The program's structure provides various opportunities for students to establish connections between traditional academic subjects, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses.

How do I choose my subject for IBDP?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers guidance to students to help them choose the most appropriate subjects for their diploma. If you need some examples of subject combinations, you can speak to our Program Counselor. Sign up for an appointment here.

Students can select subjects from six subject groups, which include studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and the arts. Additionally, students have the option to study an extra sciences, individuals and societies, or languages subject instead of a subject in the arts.

In the IB program, students take some subjects at a higher level (HL) and some at a standard level (SL). HL and SL subjects vary in scope, but they are evaluated according to the same grade descriptors. At the higher level, students are expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding, and skills.

Every student must take a minimum of three or a maximum of four subjects at the higher level and the remaining subjects at the standard level. Standard level subjects take up 150 teaching hours, while higher level subjects require 240 teaching hours.
